Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities in Republic of Croatia

e-spect@tor

e-spect@tor is an open-source digital tool designed for the analysis of the performing arts through collaborative annotation of videos of theatre performances, dance, and other performative activities. The tool was developed within a research and development environment connected with the Consortium Huma-Num CANEVAS and the L’École du Spectateur / The Spectator’s School project. It builds on the existing Celluloïd tool, originally developed for video annotation.

e-spect@tor supports work with video recordings of performances, their metadata, and analytical annotations, and is particularly useful for research, teaching, and learning in the field of the performing arts. It enables users to observe, annotate, and interpret performance elements more precisely, including dramaturgy, space, movement, sound, acting, staging, and the relationship with the audience.

DARIAH-HR presents e-spect@tor as a relevant resource for digital research in the performing arts, particularly in the context of its use and dissemination within the activities of the DARIAH-EU working group Theatralia, co-chaired from Croatia. An introductory DARIAH-Campus course, Introduction to the E-spectator Digital Tool for Analysis of Performing Arts, is also available. It introduces users to the basic functions of the tool and to its possible applications in the analysis of the performing arts.
