DARIAH-EU (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities) is conceived as a leading European organization for digital research in the field of arts and humanities, or as an interdisciplinary innovation aimed at advancing research in this area.

The intention is to connect European archives, libraries, museums, and other digital repositories in the humanities into an integrated virtual system, in order to facilitate access to digitized materials for researchers.

It is a large-scale, long-term, pan-European initiative aimed at developing and maintaining infrastructure in support of research practices based on information and communication technologies.

DARIAH operates through four so-called Virtual Competence Centres (VCCs):
VCC1 – e-infrastructure
VCC2 – linking research and education
VCC3 – scholarly content management
VCC4 – advocacy, impact assessment, and outreach of DARIAH
