The National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) is a public institution of national significance that performs the library and information activities of the national library of the Republic of Croatia and the mainl library of the University of Zagreb. The Library also carries out scientific research and development activities aimed at advancing Croatian librarianship and building and developing the Croatian library system.

The Library collects, builds, and organizes the Croatian and national collection of library materials, including electronic materials, and coordinates the acquisition of foreign scientific literature at both the national level and the level of the University of Zagreb. It compiles catalogues and union catalogues, performs the function of the national bibliographic centre, and creates current, retrospective, and specialized databases.

The Library is also responsible for the preservation of materials, implementing and promoting preventive conservation and preservation measures. It carries out informational, educational, publishing, exhibition, and promotional activities.

NSK Digital Collections

The NSK Digital Collections Portal is the central hub for accessing the digital collections of the National and University Library in Zagreb. Established in 2016, it provides access to the Library’s born-digital and digitised materials. The portal enables unified searching of digitised materials from the NSK Special Collections — books, visual materials, maps and music — as well as born-digital materials such as e-books and e-journals.

The Croatian Web Archive (HAW) is a collection of content archived from the web for the purpose of archiving and permanently storing online legal deposit copy. Content on the web is a significant part of contemporary Croatian cultural and scientific heritage. It is built on the concepts of selective archiving, annual crawl of the .hr domain and thematic crawls of content of national importance.

Virtual exhibitions

The Portal aims to bring together and virtually connect thematic collections of digitized materials from the National and University Library in Zagreb, as well as collections from other Croatian libraries, institutions, associations, and individuals who wish to contribute to building this Portal. These are collections available online in the form of virtual or digital exhibitions, digital collections, or published under some other name, containing digital copies of materials, their descriptions, and texts about the topics they cover. In short, these are collections that seek to showcase heritage and tell a story through creativity, expertise, and technology.

Croatian Digital Theses Repository was established at the National and University Library in Zagreb for the permanent storage of and public access to all theses defended in the Republic of Croatia. The National Repository brings together the contents of all the thesis repositories maintained by higher education institutions.

Croatian Digital Dissertations Repository

has been established at the National and University Library in Zagreb to ensure the permanent preservation of, and public access to, all dissertations defended within the Republic of Croatia. The National Repository consolidates the holdings of all dissertation repositories maintained by higher education institutions throughout Croatia.

Glagollitic.eu

The portal brings together the rich Glagolitic heritage (books, manuscripts, inscriptions, chants and other monuments) found in various institutions and contextualizes it with the help of modern technology. The portal contains some of the most important monuments of Glagolitic heritage, such as the first Croatian book printed in the Croatian language, the 1483 Missal by the Law of the Roman Court, the Law Code of Vinodol, as well as the works published by the Senj, Rijeka and Urach printing houses along with the relevant information sources such as transcripts, commentaries, professional and scientific papers.
