Etnographic Museum Zagreb

The Ethnographic Museum was founded in 1919 through the merger of the ethnographic collections of the former National Museum and the large textile collection of Solomon Berger, prominent merchant and industrialist . It is housed in a representative Art Nouveau building on Mažuranić Square, originally constructed for the Trade and Crafts Museum, which gives it a distinctive historical and architectural setting in the very center of Zagreb. The museum’s holdings comprise more than 90,000 objects from Croatia, neighboring European countries, and numerous regions outside Europe. Museum archives includes over 160,000 units, among these particularly noteworthy are the vast collections of original photographic material created during field research beginning in the early 1920s. The museum’s professional team is actively engaged in digitizing its collections and documentary holdings and in developing online systems and platforms in order to make the heritage preserved in the museum accessible to the widest possible circle of visitors and researchers.
