Croatian Academy of Science and Arts

The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) is the highest scientific and artistic institution in Croatia. Its principal tasks are to promote and organize scientific research while advocating the application of research results; to foster artistic and cultural activities and safeguard Croatia’s cultural heritage and its international recognition; to publish the results of scientific research and artistic creativity; and to provide proposals and expert opinions aimed at advancing science and the arts in fields of particular importance to the Republic of Croatia.
The Academy’s work is carried out through nine departments, which also oversee a network of research and artistic units in Zagreb and throughout Croatia. Through their research, publishing, exhibition, and educational activities, these units contribute to the advancement of science and culture and to the preservation of the national heritage.
Digital Collection of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (DiZbi.HAZU) brings together digitized materials from twenty research, museum, and gallery units of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, as well as holdings from the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Established in 2009, it was created as a unified digital repository of the Academy, providing a single access point to its scientific, cultural, and artistic collections and ensuring their open online availability. Today, the collection encompasses materials in a wide range of original formats, including books, journals, theatre programmes, manuscripts, microfilms, musical scores, photographs, plaster casts, medals and plaques, works of art, architectural drawings and models, and video recordings.
The portal also provides access to the union online catalogue of the libraries of the Academy’s units, as well as virtual exhibitions that offer users additional opportunities to explore and discover the Academy’s collections.
