BALADRIA - The fifth Baltic-Adriatic Summer School on Digital Humanities 2024

The fifth Baltic-Adriatic Summer School on Digital Humanities 2024 will take place at the University of Zadar from 17 to 21 June 2024.

BAL-ADRIA is a collaboration between countries surrounding the Baltic Sea, and countries surrounding the Adriatic Sea, thus connecting Northern and Southern Europe. It is organized by several institutions and main associations in Digital Humanities: Department of Information Sciences of University of Zadar, Linneaus University, iInstitute, DARIAH-EU, DARIAH-HR, Uppsala University.

 This year, Bal-Adria is organized for:

– students registered within Linnaeus University
– students of Doctoral program Knowledge society and information transfer, University of Zadar
– other participants (other universities, GLAM and other institutions, organizations,…)

In a supportive academic environment, we are offering good-sized classes ideal for learning, discussing and getting feedbacks on your ideas and thoughts in the creative field of Digital Humanities. The programme is taught by an international team of researchers and practitioners of digital humanities and social sciences and is delivered in a form of lectures, seminars and practical workshops.

The BAL-ADRIA Summer School will cover a range of digital techniques used in the field of Digital Humanities, specifically:

*   Data scraping and analysis
*   Text/corpus analysis
*   Network analysis
*   Image analysis
*   Applications of AI
*   GIS

Participants will get basic instructions in Pyhton but will also get prepared Python scripts to get help with the direct application of the discussed methods. 

Additionally, participants will be introduced to relevant tools where appropriate.

In addition, certain DH projects will be presented and specific topics will be highlighted, such as the impact of digital tools on the heritage sector.
